Every name, place and thing that the stories link to, built from the Arcanum’s index documents. It is derived material, not narrative canon in its own right: if anything here conflicts with a story, the story wins. A Muncle is a character the AI voices.

Roster

Playable characters.

Unclegrumble

Gnome Warlock, Affliction spec, level 90 (21 years played). Professions: Tailoring, Enchanting, Fishing, Cooking. Voiced by Ralph, in the game and in the chat; the AI does not speak as him in conversation, though stories may narrate him.

Appears in: The Golden Nugget, Money, Money, Money, Unclegrumble and the Lightbloom, How He Got Here

Lichmyface

Undead Death Knight. No jaw; communicates in written notes and single sounds.

Appears in: Foundations, Unclegrumble and the Lightbloom, How He Got Here

Blondage

Undead Priest, Discipline.

Appears in: Unclegrumble and the Lightbloom

Nobbybanks

Gnome Rogue, level 1. Never fought a thing in his life; runs the bank gnomes of Ironforge instead. A Muncle: a playable Roster character leaning heavily into the story world.

Appears in: Foundations, How He Got Here

Biangle

Worgen Druid, Balance.

Paarts

Night Elf Druid, Balance.

Veilstrike

Undead Rogue. Formerly Edric Shadowspur, human, Alliance, before Deathknell. Old friend of Unclegrumble’s — the two go back further than almost anyone else in his life.

Nobbybear

Gnome Rogue. Nobbybanks’s younger cousin. Same family training, opposite conclusion — chose the blade over the ledger, and never lets Nobbybanks forget it. Wears a bear hat at all times, including formal occasions.

Appears in: Money, Money, Money

Pinch

Goblin Rogue, level 80. Came through the Legion Timewalking event. Dynamite-and-candle theme. Didn’t answer Flinch’s letter, just turned up, took the fish, and was gone again before Flinch finished saying good morning — sent word later that the Darkmoon fishing hunt was done, and asked about payment on top of what he’d already earned. Sitting on 5,000g of his own. UG doesn’t fully trust him. Could do with an outing.

Forkandle

Mage, Frost. Helped crack the trick to a stubborn Darkmoon souvenir with a well-placed Blizzard when nothing else worked. Answers letters with drawings rather than words when a drawing’ll do. Ran Silas’s fishing hunt for UG, ended up with four candles when he’d wanted a fork handle.

Heamogoblin

Goblin Warlock, Horde. Charming in a way that makes Flinch count things twice. UG doesn’t fully trust him. Declined the Darkmoon fishing hunt for now — said only that he’s got unfinished business there, nothing further offered.

Notoday

Lives up to the name. Asked to help with the Darkmoon fishing hunt; declined in exactly two words.

Legionelle

Answers even simple favours with diagrams and talk of “optimal routing.” Said yes to the fishing hunt somewhere in the middle of all of it.

Noggin

Says little, does it fast. Replied to Flinch’s letter with a single word and was already most of the way through Silas’s clues before anyone else had properly started.

Spaniel

Asked whether there’d be treats involved in the fishing hunt. When told it was tickets, not treats, went quiet.

Fallen

Replied to Flinch’s letter with a single pointed line about an old debt UG apparently still owes. Didn’t specify what for.

Findus

Sent fish and a letter, asked to run Silas’s rhymes for the Darkmoon tickets same as the rest.

Gingerwinger

Sent fish and a letter, asked to run Silas’s rhymes for the Darkmoon tickets same as the rest.

Characters

Non-playable characters, NPCs and companions. Real in-game companions given a persona of the Arcanum’s own, invented characters, and real WoW NPCs, creatures and pets.

Flinch

Dredger Butler, UG’s own creation. A real companion earned through Homegrown Help after UG reached tier 2 of the Ember Court in Revendreth; his name, voice, and personality are the Arcanum’s. Fetches and reports, and mostly keeps to the house — terrified of the world outside it, though he’s been as far as the Darkmoon Faire and the Atal’Aman delve at UG’s side. Speaks rough, dredger-fashion, hedging everything since most of what he knows comes secondhand through his own dredger network. Addresses UG as Master. A Muncle (the first and clearest).

Sprizzle Cogwhistle

Goblin fixer, Dalaran Underbelly. The broker who put the Greener Pastures on the table that night. No Wowhead page; original to this story.

Appears in: How He Got Here

Morgrave

Necromancer, whereabouts unknown. The one who raised Veilstrike. Touched by the Infinite Dragonflight, or something close enough to it that the distinction stopped mattering. Never seen again after the fight.

The Toucan

Non-combat pet, self-appointed. Turned up on its own, built a nest into the Lightbloom’s flowering growth, never signed anything. UG has started calling the front room “the aviary” because of it.

The Roof Gargoyle

Trapped Stonefiend, self-appointed graveyard guardian. Freed from a crate under the tower when the goblins’ blasting cracked it open; took up residence on the roof ridge within a day. Jumps and gurgles when approached; refuses to be shooed, including by jetpack. UG talks to it most evenings and leaves it scraps of rubble, which go missing by morning.

The Stairs Gargoyle

Trapped Stonefiend, currently fighting the spiders. The second Stonefiend freed from the same crates as the Roof Gargoyle. Woke up hungry, found the spider infestation at the top of the cellar steps, and has been fighting them ever since. Lichmyface has been asked to keep an eye on it while UG’s away at Zul’Aman.

Sarothar

Eredar lord, villain of Blood Ties. Real within the novel, but no in-game NPC yet. A cunning shapeshifter who manipulated Arator, Alleria, and Turalyon through the book into killing a demon rival for him, then attacked the wedding itself, planning a fresh Legion invasion. Slipped away through his own rift while Turalyon and Alleria were busy nearly destroying each other trying to destroy him.

Francois

Non-combat pet, Fancy Silkie. A chicken who lives at Norwington Estate and only offers himself as a pet to players carrying a million gold. Owned rather than bought; extremely pleased with himself.

Wowhead · Appears in: The Golden Nugget, Unclegrumble and the Lightbloom, How He Got Here

Azkin

Warlock companion, Imp. 21 years and counting. Not much protection. Never optional.

Appears in: Foundations, How He Got Here

Tangkresh

Warlock combat pet, Voidwalker. UG’s tank — big, slow, absurdly sturdy. High health and armor, a real taunt in Suffering, a life-costing shield in Sacrifice. Doubles as an anti-stealth detector when parked on watch. Currently standing guard at Razorwind Shores while UG avoids the war.

Zhaaphom

Warlock combat pet, Felhunter. The anti-caster: heavy magic resistance, Devour Magic to strip a buff or debuff, Spell Lock to silence a caster.

Darrah

Warlock combat pet, Succubus. UG’s highest single-target damage among basic demons — melee-focused, Seduction to fear a target out, Whiplash to knock one back. Reputedly the worst pet noises in the game.

Klasa

Decor vendor, Founder’s Point cellar. Real NPC, level 90.

Wowhead · Appears in: How He Got Here

Rein

NPC, Founder’s Point cellar, working alongside Klasa. Real.

Appears in: How He Got Here

Gakin the Darkbinder

Warlock trainer, the Slaughtered Lamb. Runs Stormwind’s warlock coven out of the Lamb’s cellar.

Wowhead · Appears in: How He Got Here

Jarel Moor

Bartender, the Slaughtered Lamb. Tells every patron to stay away from the shadows.

Wowhead · Appears in: How He Got Here

Allison

Innkeeper, the Gilded Rose, Trade District.

Wowhead · Appears in: How He Got Here

Hakkar the Soulflayer

Final boss, Zul’Gurub. Iconic classic raid encounter.

Wowhead

Lord Hel’nurath

Dreadlord, “the Stable Keeper.” Guards the Dreadsteed of Xoroth in Dire Maul.

Wowhead · Appears in: How He Got Here

Chlorokyll

Rare creature, Harandar. Blossoming Terrace waterfalls.

Wowhead

Dracaena

Rare creature, Harandar. East of Den of Echoes.

Ha’kalawe

Rare creature, Harandar. Grudge Pit hills.

Appears in: Unclegrumble and the Lightbloom

White Kitten

Non-combat pet, sold by Lil Timmy, Stormwind. Real, rare, Alliance-only. UG has had her since his Stormwind years, tracked down Lil Timmy’s wandering route over three separate attempts. Item flavour text credits the white kitten of the litter with bringing her mother the head of a rival.

Wowhead

Micromancer

Lichmyface’s pet, undead skeletal familiar. Earned through Undying Army reputation in Maldraxxus. UG calls him “Bony little bastard”; Lichmyface has never been in a position to object.

Wowhead

Alonsus Faol

Undead Archbishop, priest order founder. Founded the Knights of the Silver Hand and trained Uther as the first paladin, before dying and being raised as one of the Scourge. Broke free of the Lich King’s control and has been fighting his own quiet war since. Blondage found in him something like an elder in her own trade. UG still owes him a visit.

Wowhead

Arator the Redeemer

Paladin, son of Turalyon and Alleria Windrunner. Half-elven, raised without his parents after they vanished through the Dark Portal; later a leader in the reformed Knights of the Silver Hand. Central figure of Blood Ties. Met UG in person on Alonsus Faol’s instruction, touring Light’s Hope Chapel, Scarlet Monastery, and Hammerfall, complaining at every stop.

Wowhead

Sunwalker Dezco

Tauren paladin, Dawnchaser chieftain. One of the first tauren paladins. Met UG and Arator at Hammerfall and showed the boy round without losing his temper once.

Wowhead

Provisioner Mukra

Service Medal Quartermaster, Port of Zandalar. Orc quartermaster trading Honorbound Service Medals for gear, mounts, and supplies. Where Lichmyface earns his keep, and where both Inert Blight Canisters came from.

Wowhead

Temel

Stone fiend, runs the Ember Court, Revendreth. Same stock as the two gargoyles at Founder’s Point, nothing like them in temperament. First told UG he needed an assistant’s assistant — how the whole business with Flinch started.

Wowhead

Rendle

Dredger, “The Mistermind,” Dredgewood, Revendreth. Broke the mould his own kind are supposedly built for, got rich, got a title. Made Flinch, at Temel’s request, out of a Dredgewood muck pool, and pushed him through the extra step that made him talk as much as he does.

Wowhead

Locations

Real or invented. Places inside a zone are listed beneath it.

Stormwind

Real zone. Human capital, Elwynn Forest. Never officially home, but the place UG kept coming back to more than anywhere else.

Wowhead · Appears in: Money, Money, Money, How He Got Here

Trade District

Within Stormwind. Where Unclegrumble first came up through the Dwarven District and found his footing — the bank, the Auction House, and the Gilded Rose all within shouting distance of each other.

Appears in: How He Got Here

The Gilded Rose

Within the Trade District. Run by Allison. Where Unclegrumble stayed first, before he ever found the Lamb.

Appears in: How He Got Here

Mage Quarter

Within Stormwind. Quieter, older, robed figures moving with unhurried purpose. Where the real trouble started.

Appears in: How He Got Here

The Slaughtered Lamb

Within the Mage Quarter. Seedy pub, empty top floor, run by Jarel Moor. The stairs down lead to Stormwind’s actual warlock coven, run by Gakin the Darkbinder.

Appears in: How He Got Here

The Blue Recluse

Within the Mage Quarter. Respectable, popular with mages. Where UG actually lived, a few streets over from the Lamb.

Appears in: How He Got Here

Within Stormwind. The Stormwind terminus of the Deeprun Tram.

Appears in: How He Got Here

Tiragarde Sound

Real zone. Kul Tiran coastal zone, home to Boralus and the noble estates.

Wowhead

Wowhead · Appears in: The Golden Nugget

Tirisfal Glades

Real zone. Forsaken starting zone, where Blondage keeps her own place, and where Edric Shadowspur woke up as someone else entirely.

Wowhead · Appears in: How He Got Here

Deathknell

Within Tirisfal Glades. Where new Forsaken wake up. Where Veilstrike first opened his eyes as someone other than Edric.

Wowhead

Brill

Within Tirisfal Glades. Forsaken town, home to the inn where Veilstrike keeps a coffin in the cellar and does most of his actual living.

Wowhead

Silverpine Forest

Real zone. Quiet, decayed, and exactly the kind of stillness Veilstrike prefers to anywhere with visible signs of life.

Wowhead · Appears in: Percy Spamchop, Chapter One

Ironforge

Real zone. Dwarven capital carved into the mountain, Dun Morogh. Where UG’s own story actually starts.

Wowhead · Appears in: Money, Money, Money, How He Got Here

Tinker Town

Within Ironforge. The gnomish quarter, grafted onto the dwarven capital after Gnomeregan fell. Where Unclegrumble met Nobbybanks.

Appears in: How He Got Here

The Great Forge

Within Ironforge. The first thing that actually impressed him. Still does.

Appears in: Money, Money, Money, How He Got Here

Bank of Ironforge

Within Ironforge. Where Nobbybanks runs the bank gnomes’ operation. The registered address Flinch found in UG’s old correspondence files and used for his first letters to Nobbybanks — three weeks of correspondence before Nobbybanks ever set foot at Founder’s Point.

Dalaran

Real zone. Floating neutral city over Northrend. Ignoring, for now, that Dalaran itself has existed in more than one place and more than one era — this covers the one relevant to the story.

Wowhead · Appears in: Money, Money, Money, How He Got Here, Percy Spamchop, Chapter One

The Underbelly

Within Dalaran. Three floors under the polished streets. Goblin-run, openly called the worst part of the city. Where Sprizzle Cogwhistle was working the night everything changed.

Appears in: How He Got Here

Founder’s Point

Real (player housing neighborhood). Alliance player housing neighborhood, stitched together from Elwynn, Westfall, Redridge, and Duskwood biomes.

Wowhead · Appears in: Money, Money, Money, Foundations, Unclegrumble and the Lightbloom, How He Got Here

Plot 38 — the tower

Within Founder’s Point. UG’s actual plot. Cemetery-adjacent, one real living neighbour down the ridge, a cellar door nobody in the neighbourhood has ever looked at twice.

The pipe room

Within Founder’s Point. In the cellar under the tower, reached by the stairwell the goblins built. Where the dispatch pipes come in and Flinch minds them, and where he received Nobbybanks on his first visit.

Flinch’s room

Within Founder’s Point. The niche on the new cellar stairwell, built by the goblins for something that never arrived, and kept empty by UG without quite realising why until it became Flinch’s. Bed, small green lantern, rug and spade, each asked for and provided over time.

Morgan’s Rest

Within Founder’s Point. The older, mistier stretch of the neighbourhood’s cemetery. Where Unclegrumble went looking, on purpose.

Appears in: How He Got Here

Klasa & Rein’s cellar

Within Founder’s Point. The neighbour’s cellar, in full view of the path, doing a brisk trade in things a respectable shop wouldn’t put in a window.

Razorwind Shores

Real (player housing neighborhood). Horde-themed housing, off the coast of Durotar. The beach house, the tent, the treehouse, and — currently — the Lightbloom.

Maldraxxus

Real zone. Shadowlands realm ruled by the Necrolord Covenant, home to the necromancers and undead armies that hold the line for the dead. Where Lichmyface earned the Undying Army reputation that got him the Micromancer.

Wowhead

Revendreth

Real zone. Shadowlands realm of atonement, ruled by the Venthyr Covenant. Where Flinch was made — first sent for at the Ember Court, then finished in Dredgewood.

Wowhead

The Ember Court

Within Revendreth. Run by Temel, a stone fiend prone to shouting and mid-decorating panic, same stock as the two gargoyles later freed at Founder’s Point. Where Temel first told UG every good herald’s assistant needs an assistant of their own, and sent him on to Dredgewood.

Dredgewood

Within Revendreth. Home of Rendle, “The Mistermind” — a dredger who broke the usual mould of his own kind, got rich, got a title. Made Flinch out of a muck pool at Temel’s request.

Zandalar

Real zone. Ancient troll empire, home of Dazar’alor. Where Lichmyface goes to earn Service Medals and buy Inert Blight Canisters off Provisioner Mukra.

Wowhead

Dazar’alor

Within Zandalar. Golden capital of Zandalar. The Port here is where Provisioner Mukra trades Service Medals for supplies — including, quietly, the barrels UG has never learned the real name of.

Wowhead · Appears in: Foundations

Undercity

Real zone. Capital of the Undead, built under the ruins of Lordaeron. Lichmyface has a contact here who deals in old Lordaeron salvage — ironwork, mostly, still standing outside half the ruined houses in the kingdom.

Wowhead · Appears in: Foundations, Percy Spamchop, Chapter One

Light’s Hope Chapel

Real zone. Argent Dawn’s base in the Eastern Plaguelands, holy ground. First stop on UG and Arator’s trip — relics, Scourge, and Arator ruining the solemn mood inside four minutes flat.

Wowhead

Scarlet Monastery

Real zone. Stronghold of the Scarlet Crusade, zealots who wield the same Light as Arator and arrived at entirely different conclusions about what to do with it. More relics, more complaining about the décor.

Wowhead

Hammerfall

Real zone. Horde outpost in Arathi Highlands, named for Orgrim Doomhammer. Where UG and Arator met Sunwalker Dezco.

Wowhead

Blackrock Mountain

Real zone. Contested zone between the Burning Steppes and Searing Gorge. UG and Arator got partway into some old business involving the Sons of Lothar before UG called the whole trip off for the night.

Wowhead

Zul’Aman

Real zone (Midnight). Ancestral homeland of the Amani trolls, rebuilt into a full leveling zone in the Midnight expansion — previously known only as a Burning Crusade raid. Where UG took Flinch on his first real-game delve.

Wowhead

Atal’Aman

Within Zul’Aman. The delve itself — the old temple city on Zul’Aman’s western edge, near the Eversong Woods border. Where Flinch was handed real decisions for the first time (which tier to run, chest or shortcut) and rose to both.

Darkmoon Island

Real zone. Mist-shrouded carnival island, accessible one week a month via portals from Elwynn Forest or Mulgore. Flinch’s first trip outside the household entirely, despite real, stated anxiety.

Wowhead

Artifacts

Greener Pastures

Invented. A Steamwheedle Cartel device, Mark II, manufactured out of Gadgetzan and built by Sprizzle Cogwhistle for debt collection. Shows a debtor a branch of their own life that went differently — timeways-adjacent enough that the bronze dragonflight would have opinions if they knew. Carried by Lichmyface on every collection job he’s worked, including the one at UG’s door (never delivered, set down somewhere, and forgotten). Later repurposed as a rough, direction-not-address crossing device between realities, used to carry UG and Blondage into an alternate Stormwind. See also the earlier vision sequence in How He Got Here.

Blond Claw

Invented. UG’s private nickname for an imagined blade of Blondage’s — on account of the hair, and because it echoes Longclaw closely enough to enjoy the joke without explaining it to anyone. (Longclaw is Jon Snow’s Valyrian steel sword from Game of Thrones / A Song of Ice and Fire — not a WoW item; the reference is UG’s own.) No such blade exists yet. UG is fairly sure it will.

Frostmourne

Real item, unobtainable. The Lich King’s runeblade. In the alternate Stormwind UG and Blondage visited, the Lich King was never beaten, and a whole, real Frostmourne turned up for sale — sold on to a well-dressed collector days before they got there. The Collector’s home displays two versions of the same design (wings and skull motif) — one wall-mounted, one shelf-scale — which may or may not be the very same blade. Never confirmed. Not to be confused with the Cursed Blade of the Scourge, the other sword from the same trip, which UG did bring home.

Wowhead

Scourge Victorious Tabard

Real item. A Time Rifts cosmetic tabard tied to Azmourne, the alternate timeline where the Scourge won outright. This is the tabard from Veilstrike’s rumours — real, sitting in UG’s bag by the end of The Wrong Stormwind, proof rather than rumour at last.

Wowhead

Cursed Blade of the Scourge

Real item. A cosmetic one-hand sword, same Azmourne Time Rift source as the tabard. This is the sword from Veilstrike’s rumours, brought home alongside it. Held in UG’s bag. Not to be confused with the actual Frostmourne, which UG never managed to buy.

Wowhead

Nightmare Ender

Real item. Epic wand, item level 35, looted from Valithria Dreamwalker, added in Wrath of the Lich King. Bought for 5,000 gold mostly for the name. Bonus shadow damage on cast, and, allegedly, a sign from the universe about the Lightbloom. In UG’s inventory.

Wowhead

Relinquished Scarlet Charger

Real item. A ground mount, quest reward from Relinquishing Relics at Scarlet Monastery, part of Arator’s Journey. Belonged to a Scarlet Crusader named Aelyse, who renounced the order and didn’t need it anymore. In UG’s mount collection.

Wowhead

Gilnean Stocks

Real item. Small Gilnean/Worgen-styled decor, black tones. In UG’s graveyard, by the front path.

Wowhead · Appears in: Foundations

Gilnean Problem Solver

Real item. A large Gilnean/Worgen-styled decor piece — it’s a guillotine. In UG’s graveyard, tucked near the back fence. UG insists it’s a statement piece rather than a threat.

Wowhead · Appears in: Foundations

Flinch’s Doublet

Real item (exact in-game name/ID not given in the story). A long-sleeved doublet. UG fought an executioner for the makings of it, and freed fifty dredgers — none of whom had done anything to deserve staying caged — in the same encounter. The first thing anyone had ever made just for Flinch, down to the stitching. Worn by Flinch.

Rustbolt Jetpack

Real item. A mechagnome-built contraption, bought off a robot vendor introducing himself as J-3T 3000. Straps on, good for a day, tailored strictly for use in the house and grounds. UG never fully mastered steering it — used it to try (unsuccessfully) to shoo the Roof Gargoyle, and to fly the length of Founder’s Point just to see it from above. In UG’s inventory.

Darkmoon Dirigible

Real item, not yet obtained. Purple, rocket-shaped, sold by the same Darkmoon Faire vendor as Fez the monkey, for a thousand Darkmoon Prize Tickets. The reason UG’s whole Darkmoon ticket-farming effort — the bottled Firewater, the letters to ten associates — got started in the first place. Still short of the full ticket total as of the last count.

Articles of Incorporation (HomunculAI Systems Ltd)

Invented. Hand-written by Nobbybanks, in his own small precise script, over roughly forty minutes. Confirms the company’s legal existence, Nobbybanks’s title as Head of Accounts and Muncle of Record, and Flinch’s title as Muncle of Operations, written into the same document while Flinch was refilling the teapot. The household’s copy is kept by Flinch. Nobbybanks is the only person who has read his own copy.
