II. A Direction, Not an Address

10th August 2026

Part 2 of the The Wrong Stormwind series

Lichmyface knew what he was doing in the way that mattered most: nothing about the crossing hurt, and nothing about it went wrong in any way that put UG in danger. What Lichmyface has never claimed is precision. The device pulls toward a branch the same way a compass pulls toward north — a direction, not an address — and Lichmyface has always understood this about it, the same way he understood it the night it first put him on UG’s own doorstep instead of wherever the job had actually intended to send him.

They came out the other side into a Stormwind that looked, at first glance, exactly like the one either of them already knew. Same gates. Same banners. A city that had only ever needed to survive a Scourge doing the usual amount of raiding, nothing worse. UG spent the first hour looking for some visible proof of the alternate reality Veilstrike’s letters kept circling — a different flag, a different ruler, some obvious mark of a war that had gone the other way — and found none. Whatever branch the device had found, it was not the one Morgrave had come from. UG has since decided this is not the same thing as the crossing failing. It found somewhere. It simply found somewhere else.
