Palimpsest: work in progress, public for review. The reasons on the Tower pages are an invented test fixture. The reasons on the Pyrewood pages are the plans and summaries Project 2 wrote for that story. Where a version shows “Rationale unrecorded”, no reason was written down.

What changed and why
A text revision, incorporating feedback from the round logged in percy-still-in-pyrewood-feedback.md (F1–F17). (edit)
overreach change 1 (v3-c1, v3-c1b, v3-c1c) jump to the passage ↓
Rewrite to state plainly that he had quests in Pyrewood and completed them; narrow the unexplained part to why he stayed after the work was done, which the Mezzlos paragraph already carries. The tongue image is kept. (Feedback F2, F17.)
was: I can give no account of why [[Pyrewood Village]] drew me, only the plain fact that it did. I had a perfectly serviceable errand waiting elsewhere in [[Silverpine Forest]], and I walked toward the village instead, the way a tongue goes to a broken tooth.
now: I had quests waiting in Pyrewood Village, and I finished them — that is the plain, serviceable truth of why I went. What I can give no account of is why I was still there afterward, the way a tongue keeps going back to a tooth that has already stopped aching.
world change 2 (v3-c2, v3-c2b) jump to the passage ↓
Loosen to not assert a single continuous trio for the whole evening. State plainly that he was in more than one grouping over the course of the night, without itemising the shackle count or the second join — that level of bookkeeping doesn't belong in the prose. (Feedback F15.)
was: Whatever waited there, I did not go alone. Two others of our own kind had fallen in with me by the second gate, and neither waited to be asked.
now: Whatever waited there, I did not face it alone, though not always with the same company — more than one pairing of our own kind crossed my path there that night.
overreach change 3 (v3-c3, v3-c3b) jump to the passage ↓
Cut the Son-of-Arugal-chase framing entirely — it's an invented beat that contradicts the real timeline (that chase was earlier and separate, not part of the group fight). Replace the caption with something anchored to what's actually known: the shackle count alone, no claim about his state of mind. (Feedback F10, F12, F11.)

now:
clarity change 4 jump to the passage ↓
Light touch only — make clear it's a worgen curse-effect, not a spell cast in the fight, without over-explaining. (Feedback F5.)
was: One never let a hex finish landing before closing the distance himself
now: One of them never let a cursed villager's hex finish taking hold before closing the distance himself
clarity change 5 jump to the passage ↓
Either cut the phrase or make it legible in context — whichever reads better once change 2 has already loosened that sentence. (Feedback F4.)
was: by the second gate
overreach change 6 (v3-c6) jump to the passage ↓
Cut or flatten the closing emotional claim ("grateful… faintly suspicious") — no replacement feeling invented in its place. The armour-repair ledger detail stays. (Feedback F16.)
was: The rest I am leaving where it sits, unexplained, the way a man leaves a tooth once it has stopped aching — grateful for the quiet, and faintly suspicious of it.
now: The rest I am leaving where it sits, unexplained.

When, and what prompted it
Plan of change written: 2026-10-11 (accepted 2026-10-11 22:26)
New version published: 2026-10-11 22:34
After-edit summary written
No review is named as the prompt for this edit.
After the edit
Objective met: yes — All six planned changes were applied as described, and round 2's feedback confirmed several of them directly (G1, G2, G5, G6, G8). One thing found afterward, on 2026-10-12, while comparing the real published versions for this reply: the edit also changed two things this plan never listed — the opening-image caption and `dalar-dawnweaver` in `characters:` — reverting both back to their original (V1) state from an unplanned intermediate publish (V2, 2026-10-11 22:28:47) that had already changed them. That revert was not intended by this plan and produced the caption/paragraph contradiction plan-02 later had to fix (its change 1).
Suggestions for a future edit:
- Round 2's felt response ("felt sense is perhaps not quite so good now") came right after this plan. The texture cost looks real: cutting invented material and flattening overreaching lines removes detail even where the detail was wrong, and that's worth watching for in future overreach-correction passes, not just accepting as a side effect.
- The V2 publish (fixing the Mezzlos mark and removing a banned word) should have been written up as its own plan at the time. It was treated informally as a quick fix rather than a revision event, which is how it ended up invisible to this plan and to the handoff — any publish that changes the story file is a revision, however small.

When Dalaran burned, Arugal fled south to the keep above a logging town and called worgen out of the Emerald Dream to hold a line against the Scourge. The worgen did not hold it. They turned first on the mages who had summoned them, then on the town below, and the curse meant for an enemy settled instead over Pyrewood’s own people — a thing they now carry, rather than a thing that was done to them once and finished.

There is a particular comedy, I am told, in pulling one cursed villager cleanly from a crowd and watching it bolt rather than fight. I counted it a mercy and said so. It returned a minute later with the better part of its household.
It was not the mob that undid me, in the end. It was a tailor. A tailor, formerly of this village, now in service to a dead worgen lord, put a knife between my ribs from an angle a tradesman has no business knowing, and I went down to a backstab delivered by a man who, in life, hemmed trousers. I have killed captains. I have been finished, on this one evening, by a tailor’s knife and an elder’s temper and a watch of three that came at me together, and I confess the tailor is the one I resent. The others at least had the decency to be soldiers about it.

You have no standing order here. Mezzlos told me, flatly, somewhere past the second death. He was not wrong, and he did not mean it as a kindness, and I did not take it as one. A warlock’s familiar keeps a ledger of what is owed him; he does not keep one of what a man owes himself, and has no opinion on why a dead thing with its errand finished would choose to keep dying in the same wood for no order anyone had given it.
The sixth shackle came in late, past the hour I had any further business in Pyrewood. I did not leave. My companions did not ask me to stay, which is, I have come to notice, rather more persuasive than if they had.
I have entered one figure in the book tonight, and underlined it, in the place where I usually put the thing that mattered: the cost of having my armour repaired, twice over, by a smith who did not ask why a dead man’s plate kept arriving in pieces. It is the only accounting I have of the evening. The rest I am leaving where it sits, unexplained, the way a man leaves a tooth once it has stopped aching — grateful for the quiet, and faintly suspicious of it.unexplained.↑6
